Einstein is often misquoted as saying that we only use ten percent of our brains’ capacity. Physically speaking, we do use all of our brains but it seems to me that claiming we don’t use our intellect to its potential is fairly accurate.
The premise of this blog is that too much of what we see, read and hear each day is utter rubbish passed off as the truth. Business, politicians, and especially the media, shape what we believe according to their own agendas. This site is my attempt to provide some balance.
I am a great believer in science; which makes me a skeptic in may people’s eyes. I don’t believe in things supernatural or any kind of pseudoscience. I don’t believe that genetic modification is inherently wrong or that scientists can’t be trusted.
My biggest current concern is the global warming scam being perpetrated by the IPCC and others.
My sister thinks I’m a redneck, and maybe I am by New Zealand standards, but I see myself as more Barack Obama than George W. Bush (apart from the global warming thing).
I believe in preserving the environment, reducing pollution and helping the world’s poor. I believe that, compared to other systems, capitalism and liberal democracy creates the greatest good for the greatest number people over time. Government intervention is a necessary guiding hand to prevent the extremes that emerge from this system from time to time. However, governments tend to go too far over time and end up creating a bigger mess than they were trying to fix. These things go in cycles. C’est la vie.
